Melissa Falconett Artist Statement

I am a Hudson Valley-based artist, originally from Southern Indiana. My creative journey has led me through various mediums, but six years ago I found a deep connection with embroidery. It has become a meditative practice, a space for productive rumination on emotions, longings, challenges, and moments of beauty I wish to preserve. Each piece is a tangible record of my contemplations, a visual journal woven in thread.

My inspiration stems from the often-unnoticed details of the natural world: the intricate lines within a leaf, the ripples in water, the woven structure of a bird's nest, the overlapping petals of a flower. I combine these organic forms with my formal design training to carefully select fabrics, threads, stitches, and colors. My aim is to create a playful balance between intense and subtle details, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and perhaps find their own moments of contemplation within the work.
