February Book Selection:

Small Great Things is a 2016 novel by Jodi Picoult that explores racism, privilege, and justice through the story of Ruth Jefferson, an experienced African-American labor and delivery nurse. When white supremacist parents refuse to let her touch their newborn, she hesitates to perform CPR, leading to a high-profile trial where she is charged with a serious crime, forcing her and her public defender to confront their own biases. Told from three perspectives (Ruth, the public defender, and the white supremacist father), the book examines systemic racism and challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about prejudice.
