Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray is a historical fiction novel about Frances Perkins, the first woman to serve in a U.S. presidential cabinet, as she becomes FDR's Secretary of Labor and a key architect of the New Deal, navigating political challenges, personal struggles, and her fight for workers' rights, Social Security, and child labor laws. Published in March 2024, the book is praised for bringing this influential but often overlooked figure to life through detailed research and compelling storytelling.
