Event Details

On Wednesday, December 10th, 2025, Piermont voters will be asked to elect three trustees for the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library and approve a 2% increase in the tax levy for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Any registered Piermont voter may run for election as a trustee. Potential candidates are required to submit a petition signed by twenty-five eligible Piermont voters. Blank Petitions are available at the library and must be returned to the library by December 1, 2025.  The vote will take place at the library, 25 Flywheel Park West. Polls will be open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  At present there are three known candidates for three trustee positions: 

Shauna Wennerod 

Shauna has been a resident of Piermont since 2014. She has a BA in Comparative Literature from Brown University, an MA in East Asian Languages and Literature from Ohio State University, and an MA in English Education from Columbia University. She has taught in various schools and currently works at the Children’s Shakespeare Theatre and Artisanal Copy and Oxford &Em as a copy editor. She has been on the Library Board since Jan 2022 and is serving as Secretary. She also sits on the Policy Committee, Fundraising/Events Committee and the Executive/Personnel Committee 

Sara Tucker 

Sara has been a resident of Piermont since 1990. Her professional background is in economics, banking and financial services. She has a B.A. in Economics from Binghamton University and an MBA from NYU. Sara has served on the Library Board since Jan 2023 and is currently the Vice President. She also sits on the Finance Committee and chairs the Fundraising/Events Committee. 

Tina Roeder 

Tina has been a resident of Piermont since 2014. She holds a BS in Nursing from Dominican College, and a MS in Nursing from Mercy College. She has worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years, currently working at Westchester Medical Center in the Milk Bank. She has served on the Library Board since Jan 2023 and sits on the Policy and Building and Grounds Committees. 

Voters will be asked to approve an increase to the annual Piermont Library tax levy (2026-27) from $307,754 to $313,910. This represents a 2% increase or an average annual tax increase of $5.41 for the average Piermont taxpayer. The Fiscal Year 2026 total budget starting July 1, 2026, is $524,920. 

This increased funding will help pay for costs associated with live and virtual programming, and existing library services including the purchase of new releases of adult and children’s books, movies, music as well as e-books, digital audiobooks, and downloadable music services. 

The library has continued to serve the Piermont community and continues to add new resources and programming to our offerings. The library continues to seek new ways to serve our patrons and welcomes any ideas the public may have. 

The library offers a wide range of programs for all ages, free film showings, canasta and mahjong lessons and open play, exhibits by local artists, book talks, game nights, local history exhibits, student art exhibitions, concerts, cultural events, adult summer reading programs, and much more.

● Of 2,555 Piermont residents, 1,189 hold library cards. 

● 369 programs offered with 5,682 people attending 

● 15,483 holdings circulated: 9,284 physical items, 6,199 ebooks, digital audiobooks, and other digital content  

● 24,662 visitors to the library
